In cases where there is public interest or where the sentence may be complicated or controversial, the judge may decide to make the sentencing statement more widely available. You can read the judge’s full statement here once sentence has been passed.

HMA v Robert McGregor

Sentencing Statements

At the High Court in Edinburgh today, 6 April 2017, Lady Carmichael imposed an extended sentence of 15 years on Robert McGregor after the accused pled guilty to repeatedly raping three young boys. The custodial part will be 10 years, followed by an extended period of five years on licence.

HMA v Henry Clarke

Sentencing Statements

At Glasgow Sheriff Court today, 31 March 2017, Sheriff Martin Jones QC imposed a Community Payback Order and a Restriction of Liberty Order on Henry Clarke after the accused pled guilty to culpably and recklessly driving a motor vehicle to the danger of the public. He was also disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence for a period of three years.

At the High Court in Aberdeen Lord Woolman sentenced Ryan Wilson to 16 months in prison after he pled guilty to a number charges, including one charge of sexual assault.

HMA v Allan Fraser

Sentencing Statements

At the High Court in Glasgow today, 28 March 2017, Lady Scott imposed an extended sentence of 10-and-a-half years on Allan Fraser after the accused pled guilty to the sexual abuse of three children. The custodial period will be seven-and-a-half years, followed by an extended period of licence of three years.

HMA v David Allan and Liam McMeechan

Sentencing Statements

At the High Court in Glasgow today, 24 March 2017, Lord Boyd of Duncansby imposed an extended sentence of nine years on Liam McMeechan after the accused pled guilty to assault to severe injury and attempted robbery. Lord Boyd of Duncansby also sentenced the co-accused David Allan to two years and eight months imprisonment after he pled guilty to assault and attempted robbery.
