In cases where there is public interest or where the sentence may be complicated or controversial, the judge may decide to make the sentencing statement more widely available. You can read the judge’s full statement here once sentence has been passed.

At the High Court in Glasgow today, 23 March 2018, Lord Matthews imposed extended detention orders on Jake Dornion (seven years and 11 months with a custodial part of four years and 11 months) and Stewart Adams (five years and seven months with a custodial part of four years and seven months) and ordered the detention of Corey Taylor for four years and three months after they pled guilty to assault to to assault to severe injury, permanent impairment and danger to life. HMA v James Taylor

Sentencing Statements

At the High Court in Glasgow today, 22 March 2018, Lord Boyd of Duncansby imposed an extended sentence of 14 years on James Taylor after the accused was found guilty of two charges of rape and two assault offences. The custodial part will be nine years, which will be followed by an extension period of five years on licence. On sentencing Lord Boyd made the following statement in court:
