In cases where there is public interest or where the sentence may be complicated or controversial, the judge may decide to make the sentencing statement more widely available. You can read the judge’s full statement here once sentence has been passed.

At the High Court in Glasgow today, 22 January 2018, Lord Beckett sentenced David Sell, Barry O’Neil, Anthony Woods, Francis Mulligan, Michael Bowman, Mark Richardson, Gerard Docherty, Steven McArdle and Martyn Fitzsimmons to a total of 87 years' imprisonment.

HMA v Kathleen Downey and Rene Howieson

Sentencing Statements

At the High Court in Glasgow today, 18 January 2018, Lord Armstrong sentenced Rene Howieson to life imprisonment with a punishment part of 14 years and two months for the murder Colin Skilbeck, and sentenced Kathleen Downey to five years and three months for culpable homicide.

HMA v Stuart Kitt

Sentencing Statements

At the High Court in Edinburgh today, 18 January 2018, Lord Pentland imposed an extended sentence of 10 years on Stuart Kitt after the accused was found guilty of assault to injury, permanent impairment and disfigurement and to the danger of life. The custodial part will be seven years, which will be followed by an extension period of three years on licence.
