In cases where there is public interest or where the sentence may be complicated or controversial, the judge may decide to make the sentencing statement more widely available. You can read the judge’s full statement here once sentence has been passed.

HMA v Darryl Rowe

At the High Court in Edinburgh today, 4 May 2018, Darryl Rowe was sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment; the accused having pleaded guilty to infecting another man with HIV and exposing three other men to the risk of contracting the disease after culpably and recklessly having unprotected sex with them.

At the High Court in Edinburgh today, 3 May 2018, Lord Pentland sentenced Gary Polland to an extended sentence with 8 years and 60 days imprisonment and an extension period of 3 years after he was convicted of violent crimes including stabbing.

At Dundee Sheriff Court today, 24 April 2018, Sheriff Alastair Brown sentenced Liston Pacitti and Paul Brocklehurst to four-and-a-half years’ imprisonment after each accused pled guilty to the culpable and reckless supply of “legal highs” which they knew would cause danger to health if consumed.

At the High Court in Glasgow today, 23 April 2018, Lord Beckett imposed life sentences for murder on John Henderson (punishment part 18 years), Gary Martin (punishment part 20 years), Thomas Martin (punishment part 16 years), James Connor (punishment part 14 years, 11 months) and Dean Leech (punishment part 16 years, 9 months). He also sentenced Joseph Martin to 12 years imprisonment for culpable homicide. On sentencing Lord Beckett made the following statement in court:
