In cases where there is public interest or where the sentence may be complicated or controversial, the judge may decide to make the sentencing statement more widely available. You can read the judge’s full statement here once sentence has been passed.

PF v Aaron Charles Gemmell, Conor Marshall Clark and Colin Gibb Clark

Sentencing Statements

At Dumfries Sheriff Court on 6 March 2018 Sheriff Brian Mohan sentenced Aaron Gemmell to two years' imprisonment after he pled guilty to housebreaking and a breach of bail; sentenced Conor Clark to two years' imprisonment after he pled guilty to housebreaking; and sentenced Colin Clark to three years and four months' imprisonment after he was found guilty of housebreaking. The three are also subject to confiscation and compensation orders under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002.

HMA v Christopher Hutchison

Sentencing Statements

At the High Court in Glasgow today, 6 March 2018, Lady Rae imposed an extended sentence of 12 years on Christopher Hutchison, the accused having pleaded guilty to culpable and reckless conduct, assaulting a police officer by firing a crossbow at him, and wilful fire-raising. The custodial part will be eight years, which will be followed by an extended period of four years on licence.
