In cases where there is public interest or where the sentence may be complicated or controversial, the judge may decide to make the sentencing statement more widely available. You can read the judge’s full statement here once sentence has been passed.

HMA v Kathryn Forman

Sentencing Statements

At Aberdeen Sheriff Court on 28 August 2018, Sheriff Jack Brown sentenced Kathryn Forman to a Community Payback Order with 300 hours of unpaid work after the offender pled guilty to causing death by careless driving. She was also disqualified from driving for three years.

HMA v David Taylor

Sentencing Statements

At the High Court in Edinburgh today, 23 August 2018, Lord Pentland imposed an extended sentence of seven years and eight months on David Taylor after the accused pled guilty to armed robbery. The custodial period will be four years and eight months, which will be followed by an extension period of three years on licence.

At the High Court in Glasgow today (22 August), Lady Rae sentenced David Hall to an extended sentence of 7 years, 6 months imprisonment with a further extended period of 5 years; after the offender pled guilty to a knife attack on a stranger trying to assist two women.

At the High Court in Edinburgh today (22 August), Lord Pentland sentenced Arnis Zoronkin to community based orders which include a Sexual Offences Prevention Order and 240 hours of unpaid work, after he was convicted of directing sexual verbal communications to a young child.

At Edinburgh Sheriff Court today, 21 August 2018, Sheriff Frank Crowe sentenced Yvonne McConnell to three years’ imprisonment after the accused was found guilty of being concerned in the supply of heroin.
