In cases where there is public interest or where the sentence may be complicated or controversial, the judge may decide to make the sentencing statement more widely available. You can read the judge’s full statement here once sentence has been passed.

HMA v STEVEN COLIN DICK

Sentencing Statements

At the High Court in Edinburgh Lord Doherty sentenced Steven Dick to 10 years imprisonment and placed him on the Sex Offenders Register for life, after he was found guilty of a number of sexual offences between January 2009 and February 2011 in Burntisland, Fife.

Sentencing Statements

At the High Court in Edinburgh Lord Uist sentenced Denis Duffy to four years eight months imprisonment with a further extension period of four years after he pled guilty to assaulting and attempting to rob the owner of a Chinese takeaway in Cumbernauld on 29 December 2011.

HMA v CONNOR JAMIE MURDOCH WARD

Sentencing Statements

At the High Court in Edinburgh Lord Uist sentenced Connor Ward to three years detention and imposed a supervised release order after he pled guilty to making threats and possessing an explosive substance. The offences took place between December 2010 and May 2012 in Banff.

HMA v STEPHEN JOHN DICKSON

At the High Court in Edinburgh Lord Doherty imposed a lifelong restriction order on Stephen Dickson, with a punishment part of 5 years, after he was found guilty of two offences of assault and abduction; one of assault and attempted abduction; and one of assault, abduction, detention and rape in Aberdeen between October 2007 and January 2012.

HMA v RYAN ESQUIERDO

At the High Court in Glasgow, Judge Rae sentenced Ryan Esquierdo to 12 years detention followed by a period of five years supervision after he pled guilty to the culpable homicide of Stuart Walker in Cumnock on 22 October 2011.
