In cases where there is public interest or where the sentence may be complicated or controversial, the judge may decide to make the sentencing statement more widely available. You can read the judge’s full statement here once sentence has been passed.

Sentencing Statements

At the High Court in in Edinburgh Lord Uist imposed an order for lifelong restriction on Stuart Cameron after he pled guilty to the attempted murder of a man in Blackburn on 24 July 2012. The punishment part was fixed at 3 years 4 months.

At the High Court in Edinburgh Lord Uist imposed an order for lifelong restriction on James Douglas Ferguson after he pled guilty to assaults and theft in June 2012 in East Lothian. The punishment part was fixed at 2 years and 3 months.

At the High Court in Glasgow Lord Stewart sentenced Michael Handley to six years imprisonment for the assault of Robert Anderson to his injury and to the danger of his life on 22 August 2012 on the A702 road at Dalveen Pass.

HMA v COLIN COATES, PHILIP HOWARD WADE, DAVID PARKER & PAUL HAMILTON SMITH

Sentencing Statements

At the High Court in Glasgow Lord Pentland imposed life sentences on Colin Coates and Philip Wade after they were found guilty of the murder of Lynda Spence in April 2011. The punishments parts were fixed at 33 years and 30 years imprisonment respectively. David Parker was sentenced to 11 years and 3 months imprisonment and Paul Smith was sentenced to 11 years imprisonment after they pled guilty to assaulting Lynda Spence and attempting to defeat the ends of justice.

HMA v SAIMA GUL & FAZLI RAHIM

Sentencing Statements

At the High Court in Edinburgh Judge O’Grady imposed life sentences on Saima Gul and Fazli Rahim with a punishment part of 23 years imprisonment after they were found guilty of the murder of Mohammed Noor in Glasgow on 5 May 2012.
