In cases where there is public interest or where the sentence may be complicated or controversial, the judge may decide to make the sentencing statement more widely available. You can read the judge’s full statement here once sentence has been passed.

HMA v LAURENCE MCALLISTER & KIERAN JOSEPH MURPHY

Sentencing Statements

At the High Court in Edinburgh Lord Uist sentenced Laurence McAllister and Kieran Murphy after both were found guilty of being concerned in the supply of cannabis. Lord Uist sentenced Laurence McAllister to 5 years 6 months imprisonment, and Kieran Murphy to 5 years imprisonment.

HMA v THOMAS SHANNON

Sentencing Statements

At the High Court in Edinburgh today Lord Doherty sentenced Thomas Shannon to 6 years 4 months imprisonment with an extension period of 8 years. On 30 May 2012 at the first Preliminary Hearing in the case Thomas Shannon pled guilty to a breach of a sexual offences prevention order which had been imposed on him on 12 June 2008. On 2 October 2012 at the High Court at Dundee he pled guilty at the trial diet to a contravention of s. 3 of the Sexual Offences (Scotland) Act 2009. Both offences took place in Dundee.

At the High Court in Edinburgh on the 25th October 2012, Lord Uist made an interim compulsion order on Douglas Lawrence after he pled guilty to culpable homicide and assault.

At the High Court in Edinburgh Lord Brailsford sentenced James Brand to 40 months imprisonment after he pled guilty to assaulting a police officer to her injury and to the danger of her life, and obstructing police officers in the execution of their duty on 1st July 2012 at Gartmorn Dam, Alloa.

HMA v STEPHEN IAN CRAWFORD & DARREN McDEVITT

Sentencing Statements

At the High Court in Glasgow Lord Matthews imposed life sentences on Stephen Crawford and Darren McDevitt after they were found guilty of the murder of Michael Herbison on 29 August 2011. The punishment part was fixed at 18 years.
