In cases where there is public interest or where the sentence may be complicated or controversial, the judge may decide to make the sentencing statement more widely available. You can read the judge’s full statement here once sentence has been passed.

HMA v DEREK CLARK, RICHARD PARVIN & DARRYL FINNIE

Sentencing Statements

At the High Court in Glasgow Lord Stewart sentenced the above named accused to custodial sentences. Derek Clark was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment with an extension period of five years for two assaults and for attempted murder. Richard Parvin was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for conspiracy to assault and assault. Darryl Finnie was sentenced to four years imprisonment for conspiracy to assault. The offences took place on 22 March 2012.

HMA v KYLE MONTGOMERY

At the High Court in Edinburgh Lord Doherty sentenced Kyle Montgomery to nine years imprisonment after he was found guilty of the culpable homicide of Thomas Graham Allwood in Broxburn on 21 June 2012.

At the High Court in Edinburgh Lord Doherty sentenced Steven Dick to 10 years imprisonment and placed him on the Sex Offenders Register for life, after he was found guilty of a number of sexual offences between January 2009 and February 2011 in Burntisland, Fife.

Sentencing Statements

At the High Court in Edinburgh Lord Uist sentenced Denis Duffy to four years eight months imprisonment with a further extension period of four years after he pled guilty to assaulting and attempting to rob the owner of a Chinese takeaway in Cumbernauld on 29 December 2011.

At the High Court in Edinburgh Lord Uist sentenced Connor Ward to three years detention and imposed a supervised release order after he pled guilty to making threats and possessing an explosive substance. The offences took place between December 2010 and May 2012 in Banff.
