In cases where there is public interest or where the sentence may be complicated or controversial, the judge may decide to make the sentencing statement more widely available. You can read the judge’s full statement here once sentence has been passed.

At the High Court in Glasgow Judge Rae sentenced Graeme McLaren to life imprisonment with a punishment part of 20 years after he was found guilty of the murder of James Small on 5 June 2013 in Greenock.

At the High Court in Edinburgh on 16 December 2013 Lady Wise sentenced Daryl Smith to 4 years 6 months imprisonment after he was found guilty of raping a woman in Shetland in June 2011.

HMA v KYLE GLASS JOHNSTON

At Edinburgh Sheriff Court Sheriff Crowe sentenced Kyle Glass Johnston to 14 months imprisonment after he pled guilty to assaulting a taxi driver to his severe injury and robbing him of a digital device and his car keys. The incident arose as vehicles were filtering from two lanes into one at roadworks and the taxi driver was assaulted as he sat in his cab on 30 March 2013 on Gorgie Road, Edinburgh.

At Edinburgh Sheriff Court Sheriff Crowe sentenced Michael Falconer to a 12 month Restriction of Liberty Order after he pled guilty to claiming Invalidity Benefit to which he was not entitled from 1 December 2003 to 19 March 2012 and obtaining a total of £32,272.50.
