In cases where there is public interest or where the sentence may be complicated or controversial, the judge may decide to make the sentencing statement more widely available. You can read the judge’s full statement here once sentence has been passed.

HMA v GARY SAUNDERS

Sentencing Statements

At the High Court in Edinburgh Lord Uist imposed an order for lifelong restriction on Gary Saunders after he pled guilty to severe assault at the Sheriff Court. The case was remitted to the High Court for sentence and the punishment part was fixed at six years.

At the High Court in Glasgow Lord Turnbull sentenced Ewan Dow to life imprisonment after he pled guilty to the murder of Daniel Turner. The punishment part of the sentence was fixed at 18 years and six months.
