In cases where there is public interest or where the sentence may be complicated or controversial, the judge may decide to make the sentencing statement more widely available. You can read the judge’s full statement here once sentence has been passed.

HMA v Paul McCann, Mark Moncrieff & Domenica Smith

Sentencing Statements

At the High Court in Glasgow today, 16 August, Lord Boyd of Duncansby sentenced Paul McCann and Mark Moncrieff to life imprisonment with punishment parts of 18 and 20 years imprisonment respectively after the offenders were convicted of murder. Lord Boyd also deferred sentenced on Domenica Smith after the offender was convicted of assault.

At the High Court in Edinburgh today, 14 August, Lady Scott sentenced Declan Mayes to five years and three months imprisonment and disqualified him from driving after the offender pled guilty to causing death by dangerous driving.

At the High Court in Glasgow today, 5 August 2019, Lord Clark sentenced Charlie Boyle to two years’ imprisonment after the accused pled guilty to culpably and recklessly shaking a baby to his severe injury and to the danger of his life, and to assaulting a former partner.
