Lord Justice Clerk gives keynote address at 21st Century Bar Conference

The Lord Justice Clerk has given the keynote address at the 15th annual 21st Century Bar Conference.

Lord Carloway discussed the court reforms of the early 19th Century, and said “the concerns underlying the reforms find parallels in those of today”.

He outlined the developments in information technology within the Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service and how new electronic processes would help to implement the recommendations of Lord Gill’s Scottish Civil Courts Review.

Speaking at the event hosted by the Faculty of Advocates on Friday 4 December 2015, the Lord Justice Clerk also explained his vision for the future of the Scottish system of proof and how digital technology could revolutionise court procedures and the way evidence is taken and presented in court.
