New judicial appointments

A judge has been appointed to the Inner House of the Court of Session and two others are to be appointed.

Lord Woolman has been appointed to the Second Division of the Inner House of the Court of Session effective from today’s date. Lord Pentland and Lord Doherty will also be appointed to the Inner House and will commence in July and December respectively.

The Lord Justice General, Lord Carloway, and the Lord Justice Clerk, Lady Dorrian, recommended the appointments to enable Court business to continue to be dealt with efficiently and effectively.

Under legislation, the Cabinet Secretary for Justice, Humza Yousaf, consented to the appointments, satisfied they are required to meet the business demands of the Court.

The appointments come as Lord Drummond Young retires from the bench with two other senators of the College of Justice due to retire later in the year.

The three judges will preside over appeal cases at the highest level in relation to civil, criminal, and tribunal business.
