New Surveyor Member

The Lands Tribunal for Scotland (LTS) has announced the appointment of Charles Craigie Marwick BSc (Hons) FRICS as its new Surveyor Member in succession to the late Douglas Gillespie.

Mr Marwick joins the Tribunal on a part-time basis from GVA surveyors where, as a Senior Director, he headed up the firm’s Glasgow and Edinburgh valuation teams.

Prior to that he had experience in rating with the Lothian Regional Assessor’s Office from 1983 to 1989, leaving as a Senior Valuer to enter private practice with Donaldsons.  

 In addition to being a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors he is an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.

 Welcoming Mr Marwick, LTS President, Lord Minginish said: “Craigie was appointed from a very strong field of candidates and he brings to the Tribunal a wealth of experience across the fields of valuation, compulsory purchase and rating.  He has all the hallmarks of being a worthy successor to the late Douglas Gillespie and my colleagues and I very much look forward to working with him in the years ahead.”

 Mr Marwick takes up his post on 3 January 2018.

Charles Craigie Marwick Marwick was educated at George Watson’s College, Edinburgh, of which he is now a Governor, before graduating BSc (Hons) in Estate Management from Heriot Watt University which was followed in turn by two years living and working in South America, where he met his wife and became fluent in Spanish.  A keen yachtsman, he has raced across the Atlantic twice and completed the Rolex Fastnet Race in 2015. 

The Lands Tribunal for Scotland exercises a wide range of statutory jurisdictions including cases involving the rating of non-domestic properties, challenges to the Land Register, variation of title conditions and the assessment of compensation for land compulsorily acquired. It is based at George House, 126 George Street, Edinburgh EH2 4HH but hears cases throughout Scotland.
