The Office of Chair of the Scottish Land Court

The Judicial Appointments Board for Scotland invites applications from suitably qualified individuals who wish to be considered for appointment to the office of Chair of the Scottish Land Court. The vacancy will arise in October 2014.

Historically it has been customary that the successful applicant would also be appointed as President of the Lands Tribunal for Scotland, and The Judicial Office for Scotland have confirmed this is the Lord President’s intention. Therefore applicants should understand that if successful they would most likely be expected to fulfil both roles. The Guidance Note for Applicants and Referees provides further information.

Selection is made solely on merit. The Board encourages and welcomes applications from the widest possible range of eligible individuals. The Board would particularly welcome applications from protected groups covered by the Equality Act 2010 such as; women, people with a disability or those from an ethnic minority background.

Applicants must have been legally qualified for at least 10 years.  A person who is legally qualified is either an Advocate, a Sheriff, a Sheriff Principal or a Solicitor with rights of audience in the Court of Session.  On appointment the successful applicant will have the same rank and tenure of office as if they had been appointed a Senator of the College of Justice.

The application pack can be obtained from the Board’s website or from the Board’s Secretariat, Judicial Appointments Board for Scotland, 38–39 Drumsheugh Gardens, Edinburgh EH3 7SW (DX: ED29, Edinburgh), Telephone 0131 528 5101.

Applications should be submitted no later than 5.00pm on Thursday 10th April 2014.  Interviews will take place between 2nd June and 4th June 2014.
